Soumyajit Ghosh and Manika Batra have been selected for Rio 2016 Olympic Games to represent Indian TT squad. There is South Asian Zone qualification event going on in Hong Kong. Only Indian players were there and 4 each in Mens and Womens category got chance to fight for first position.
Soumyajit Ghosh remain unbeaten and won all 3 matches against Sharath Kamal, Anthony Amalraj and Harmeet Desai.
But in Womens, there was tough fight. Manika Batra first lost to Pooja Sahasrabuddhe 2-4 (7-11, 9-11, 12-10, 10-12, 11-5, 7-11). But then recovered and won 2 matches against K. Shamini and Mouma Das. On the other hand Shamini also won 2 matches. Thus Manika and Shamini stood at the top. But as Manika had beaten Shamini, hence Manika got upper hand and stood at top positon and thus selected for Rio Olympic.
Rio 2016 Olympic Games are from 5 Aug to 21 Aug 2016 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Sharath and Mouma have still one more chance to get selected for Reo Olympic. In second stage of the Asia Olympc Games Qualification tournament in Hong Kong, Sharat and Mouma has reached finals. Sharat has to beat Noshad of Iran and Mouma has to beat Sun Ri of North Korea, to get selected for Rio. Lets keep fingers crossed.
